Dr. Gerko Oskam is Professor in the Department of Applied Physics of the Centro de Investigaión y de Estudios Avanzados del Instituto Politécnico Nacional (Center for Research and Advanced Studies of the National Polytechnical Institute)- Cinvestav - in Mérida, Yucatán, México, where he started his group in Octobre 2001. He obtained his Ph.D. at the University of Utrecht in 1993 with a thesis entitled "The Electrochemical Properties of Metallized III-V Semiconductors". In the period of 1993 - 1996, he worked as a postdoctoral associate in the group of Prof. Dr. Peter C. Searson, in the department of Materials Science and Engineering at the Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, MD, USA and from 1996 to 2001, he continued in the same department as an Associate Research Scientist. He has published 76 papers in international journals, which have received more than 3500 cites. He has published 4 book chapters, 4 books , 2 US patents. His research interests include: electrodeposition of functional materials, synthesis and characterization of nanomaterials,photoelectrochemical solar cells,transport properties in solar cells, photoelectrochemical hydrogen generation, selective absorber coatings for solar-thermal energy conversion.
